Work With Me

About Michael

As a fourth-generation Berkeley native, Michael Hocking brings something few real estate professionals can claim: a lifelong connection to the East Bay and an intimate understanding of the communities that make the region so distinctive.

His real estate career began with renovating rental properties and evolved into managing sophisticated residential high-rise buildings. That hands-on experience gave Michael an unusually deep understanding of how buildings actually work—from construction and building systems to maintenance, budgets, HOA governance, and the often-complex world of CC&Rs. Today, that knowledge gives his clients a valuable advantage, particularly when navigating the urban condominium market.

Michael's perspective is also distinctly international. Having lived and conducted business overseas for more than 11 years, he developed a broad cultural perspective and an appreciation for the different ways people approach business, property, and investment. He brings that experience home to the Bay Area, combining it with energy, curiosity, careful preparation, and exceptional follow-through.

Buying or selling a home is rarely a simple transaction. Michael approaches every assignment strategically and personally, taking the time to understand his clients' goals, anticipate challenges, and keep the process moving. His goal is not simply to close a transaction, but to make sure his clients feel confident and well represented at every step.

Marketing That Gets Noticed

Real estate marketing has changed dramatically—and Michael has embraced that evolution.

He combines sophisticated digital and internet-based marketing with the impact of traditional print and direct marketing. From compelling property presentation and targeted digital exposure to strategic online placement and traditional luxury marketing, he creates a comprehensive campaign designed to put a property in front of the right audience.

For buyers, that same knowledge of technology and the marketplace provides access to information and opportunities that can help them make smarter decisions in a competitive market.

My Philosophy

I believe real estate is ultimately about people.

Buying or selling a home is one of the most significant financial and personal decisions most people will ever make. My responsibility is to make sure my clients are informed, prepared, and confidently represented from our first conversation through the closing—and beyond.

I place a premium on communication, responsiveness, attention to detail, and doing what I say I will do. I genuinely enjoy the people I work with, and I approach every client relationship with the same objective: to deliver the best possible outcome while making the experience as smooth, positive, and rewarding as possible.

My business is built on relationships, trust, and results. I hope that the experience of working together becomes the beginning of a relationship that serves you for many years to come.

Community

Michael's connection to the East Bay extends well beyond real estate.

He served on the Board of Directors of The Committee to Preserve the Jess Murals & Kael-Basart House, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving the extraordinary home and murals of artist Jess Collins for future generations.

The experience reflected something Michael values deeply: protecting the character, history, art, architecture, and unique sense of place that make the Bay Area such an extraordinary place to live.
